Dispute Resolution & Mediation

Dispute Resolution & Mediation endeavours to help those experiencing difficulties resolving disputes and/or reaching agreements in relation to property settlement, financial matters, neighbourhood, family and community disputes. Information, advice and Dispute Resolution can also offered to assist with parenting arrangements.

The Mediation Service provides confidential information, support, referral and Dispute Resolution (mediation) in relation to:

  • property settlement
  • financial matters
  • neighbourhood  and community disputes
  • disputes between family members
  • parenting arrangements

Dispute Resolution may involve:

  • an initial individual session with a mediator
  • (for parenting matters) an education session regarding children's needs, the family dispute resolution process and strategies to help with communication and negotiation
  • joint dispute resolution session(s)

The Mediation Service is a fee-for-service program. Any concerns about your ability to pay the fee can be discussed with your dispute resolution practitioner (mediator).

This service is available through the Family Relationship Centres in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport offices.

Family Relationships Centres are also a source of information, confidential advice and referral for families at all stages in their life: starting a relationship, wanting to make a relationship stronger, or having relationship difficulties. Where families separate, the Centres provide information, advice and dispute resolution to help people reach agreement on parenting arrangements without having to go to court, and encourage separating parents to focus strongly on the needs of their children.
