Healthy Tasmania Neighbour Day Challenge 2020

Neighbour Day 2020 – Social Connection: The community you want starts at your front door

We invite you to get involved in Neighbour Day on Sunday 29 March 2020.
Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community, bringing together like-minded people and organisations to grow stronger, well-connected communities.

Check out the Neighbour Day website for ideas and resources to help organise an event in your community.

Your event can be as simple or as wide-reaching as you like! We strongly recommend partnering with other community organisations. By hosting or attending an event you’re helping to create social connections that not only make us feel better, but help prevent loneliness, isolation and depression.

The Healthy Tasmania Neighbour Day Challenge encourages people to reach out and create connections with those around them.

Contact your council, local government community development officer, library, Neighbourhood House, Child and Family Centre and other service providers as they may also be planning a Neighbour Day event.

Healthy Tasmania Community Challenge

Healthy Tasmania is excited to support Neighbour Day with a community challenge.
The DoH is working with Relationships Australia to promote Neighbour Day activites around the state.

Recieve $5 000 or $1000 for your community.
People registering for a Neighbour Day event are invited to enter the Healthy Tasmania Neighbour Day Community Challenge to go in the draw for $5 000 or $1 000 for their community.

Just email us at by 8 March 2020, and tell us in 500 words or less:

1. About your group and planned Neighbour Day event.
2. How you would spend $5 000 or $1 000 in your town or neighbourhood to help create social connections and address loneliness in your community.

Examples include creating a new group or project in your community that connects people of different ages.

Community projects might include a heritage walk in your town, a community space upgrade, cooking with friends or a community walk.

Want more inspiration or ideas? See what previous winners have done to serve their community.

All entrants will be placed in the draw for $5 000 or $1 000 for their region (North, North West and South). To be announced 20 March 2020, see Terms and Conditions.
